At Bold Soul Services, the brand is deeply rooted in my Tikanga Māori (culture and heritage) and the profound symbolism of the Pikorua, the twist design at the heart of the logo. This connection honours not just where I come from, but also the values that guide my work with clients – connection, respect, and growth.
The Meaning Behind the Pikorua
The Pikorua represents an eternal bond between people and cultures. Its seamless twist, with no beginning or end, symbolises the natural ebbs and flows of life and the way our paths intertwine with others over time. This traditional Māori symbol reflects the interwoven journeys we share, the resilience of relationships, and the strength of connections that endure life’s challenges.
The design resembles two Pikopiko fern fronds, native to Aotearoa’s (New Zealand) forests, and carries deep meaning: loyalty, friendship, love, and connection. It beautifully encapsulates the essence of psychotherapy—a journey through life’s twists and turns toward growth, healing, and deeper connection with ourselves and others.
Interwoven Paths and the Transactional Analysis Model
The interwoven flow of the Pikorua also mirrors the Transactional Analysis (TA) model of ego states—Parent, Adult, and Child—represented by three interlinked circles. Both reflect the interconnected nature of our internal world and our relationships. Just as the Pikorua honours the constant movement and unity of life’s pathways, the TA model helps us understand how our past and present selves influence the way we relate to ourselves and others.
New Beginnings Inspired by the Koru
The design is also influenced by the Koru, a spiral shape inspired by the unfolding frond of the native fern, symbolising new beginnings, hope, and personal transformation. These are core values of the therapeutic process—each session offering a fresh opportunity to move toward greater self-awareness and change.
Together, the Pikorua and Koru reflect not only the essence of Māori culture but also the heart of bold soul services: supporting individuals as they navigate life’s complexities and rediscover their strength and potential.
